377 Days - Blog #39, Here's the Plan, Stan
So here I am at Blog #39, a number that kind of resonates because the whole point of this daily musing is to get some words typed and published as a way to record my 39th year. I have to say I’m impressed that I haven’t missed a day yet. There have been a few nights when I thought, well, I’ll just make up for it the next day and write two. (And technically, I do have an extra one in the bank for #10.) But this is a mental game that I am playing with myself. It is as much about discipline and determination as it is about writing and recording anything.
That said, there are some days when my content is very lame. I get to the end of the evening… and there is just, simply, nothing in the brain. Nothing interesting. That is also a bit of a mental game I’m playing with myself. The how can I find something about each day that isn’t boring. Better yet, what will make you, my readers, decide to click and read this post or the remaining 338 posts to come? What has already prompted attention… and what has gone by the by with little or no notice?
Well, blogger is somewhat helpful in this. There are statistics at which I can glance to see my most popular topics through the last month… or overall. I could tell you without that data, that the most popular post was about 42nd Street. People I didn’t even know shared it. That was cool. And I really liked writing that blog. I was in the groove.
I can’t go to shows every night, nor would I want to. I’m not going to be a reviewer. But it does seem theater is a popular topic. So, there will definitely be more of that. Every Friday (after this) will be my theater post - be it about a show I see or my progress on Twelfth Night or a little anecdote about my theater life.
Friday is just one day a week. At the risk of being too organized… but maybe to help you, dear Reader, decide what day on which you wish to program your reading, this is how the general theme of each day will go:
Sundays: Progress Report. I said I had a list. I haven’t written about it yet. So Sunday(s), I will. Complete with some check marks
Mondays: Health – of mind, body, soul and how I start my week fulfilling those intentions
Tuesdays: My novels… or writing in general. The progress I make towards the two manuscripts I now claim as current work. Maybe some history or bit of culture to which they are relevant. And, indeed, there are some of those relevant histories and culture that I can share about An Ever Fixed Mark as well
Wednesdays: Worcester Writer’s Collaborative. Writing Part Two. But I think it is important to celebrate this group I helped to start and promote our activities or our members.
Thursdays: I thought to stay away from politics. I know some people don’t like it. I don’t like to perpetuate the taboo of any subject. So I will indulge one post a week. But the political may be the politics of goodness or history or whether to butter one side of bread or the other. Whatever it may be, I hope it will be a post to chew on.
Fridays: Like I said, theater.
Saturdays: Food. Because Saturdays are supper club. And when it’s not supper club, I have a bookshelf full of cookbooks and recipes cards that need to be tested. So why not end the week with a recipe?
Well, that’s the general idea anyway. If something comes up that has to throw me off track, well then it will. But the point is that I write. And these topics seem appropriate threads for the tapestry of my year in the life. I even made myself a google calendar to plan my posts. Because I’m taking it seriously… and maybe it will make this blog a little less haphazard.
