377 days, Blog #129 three things I learned on December 6th
So I was just about to head upstairs and call it a night
when I realized I hadn’t written my blog for today. To keep it simple, here are the three things
this Saturday taught me.
1. The difference between more or less flour when making
cookies. I have a chocolate chip recipe
that I made with more frequency in years past.
I pulled it out today to make cookies for a theater event and thought I
remembered that the flour amount of my scribbles was too much. The first sheet was almost too brittle with
all the butter and shortening. Then with
a little more flour, they were pretty nearly perfect. I might have known that before, but it's still a happy discovery to figure these things out without a cookbook.
2. If you make a lot of cookies for an event, there will be
small attendance. I’m sure the reverse
is true. Well, I hope. Maybe I should try making less so that next
time we will run out with the crowds of people who show up.
3. I scream when I see a mouse more from anger than
fear. Okay, a little of it is freaking
out from seeing some little dirty thing scurry across the floor. But mostly, I’m just pissed those little
buggers still plague my kitchen even after I’ve killed two of their comrades
with traps and have taken the (not so brilliant) advice of the internet by putting
cotton balls with peppermint oil in strategic places. Well, I guess it’s a good time of year for
the house to smell like candy canes.
