The Lost MySpace Files

Sometimes I remember things I wrote. A lot of times, these blogged journal entries slip out of my memory into the computer ether. But it’s there… even if it was logged in on a neglected social network.

I’ve had quite a few conversations about Jane Eyre and Frankenstein lately. And surprisingly, I remembered an opinionated essay I wrote about adapting those novels four and a half years ago. Little did I know I would eat my words a short four months later with an exquisite BBC miniseries… but I contended that there was no way at all either of those books could work in any other medium than book. Fast forward to the present and I re-evaluate the opinion again, seeing a weak try at Bronte on the big screen but an awesome stage interpretation of Mary Shelley’s cautionary horror story.

Anyway, I’m not going to write a literary essay… because the purpose of my reflection is to say I went back to find that original five paragraphs to see how my perspective has shifted since that autumn of 2006.

To do that, I had to blow the tumbleweeds off of my myspace account. I scrolled through 60 or so blogs to find that piece and decided there is some decent writing on there. Some brilliant time capsules of arbitrary moments… that shouldn’t be tied up in that ghost town. So… I reposted them on my other neglected blog. It is curious how my blogging has changed. I went from marvels over England, theater, every day amusements, and Beauport to a pretty consistent political pondering. I am less afraid to write what I think… but by that same token, I’m a little less economic with my words.

So this is my 2006-2009 archive. A slice of life on the blogosphere.
