Say it hot
“Be still when you have nothing to say; when genuine passion moves you, say what you've got to say, and say it hot.” – DH Lawrence
Words are one of my obsessions. I like to craft a clever phrase or extract feeling with the combination of a few choice syllables. I like a good story. I like capturing a snapshot of the day’s thoughts… thoughts that so easily pass into the next day and get lost in the look back to what happened before.
I’ve been writing a lot since November. Three drafts of 450 odd pages. It’s the furthest I’ve ever gotten on a novel… and as a consequence, it’s the first time I feel legitimate in claiming myself as a writer.
The novel is an ongoing project, but those words and snapshots of thoughts can only relate to my characters. Not to me, Jessie, in my world of Boston and Central MA. I relish the hours I spend each and every day with Lizzie, Ben, and Oliver. But… I think it’s time to speak a thing or two of my own life, for my bemusement and perhaps the bemusement of a handful of other readers.
So, this blog is an attempt to capture the absurdities, the musings, the joys, the grief, the struggle, and the hope that cycles through my brain on a daily basis. Okay, I’m not going to write them all down… but just the few that I think should stand out as the days blend together in memory.
